Suggested Response:
• The Government of Canada knows that using less energy is the best way to save money and help the environment.
• That is why we have committed to energy efficiency and made significant investments since 2015.
• The government invested over $1 billion in Budget 2019 for energy efficiency to create jobs and help achieve our emission reduction targets.
• This includes work with provinces and territories on building codes, high efficiency equipment, energy disclosure, and lower emission vehicle infrastructure.
Background:
On November 19, 2019, Efficiency Canada (a national advocacy organization) released Canada’s first Provincial Energy Efficiency Policy Scorecard, marking the beginning of an annual process of tracking, benchmarking and reporting on energy efficiency policies and performance. Natural Resources Canada did not fund or participate in the Scorecard; however publicly accessible data from NRCan was used in its development. Provincial results show a significant opportunity for improvement and large score differentials between provinces, with British Columbia as the highest-rated province, Alberta in the middle and Newfoundland and Labrador as the lowest.
